Painting Whistler Red For The Olympic Torch Arrival
Whistler Mayor Ken Melamed encouraged the Whistler community to come out and celebrate "Paint the Town Red" day for the arrival of the Olympic flame.
On February 5, Olympic fans packed the streets of Whistler clad in red mittens, toques, and sweaters while waving Canadian and Olympic flags.

The arrival of the Olympic torch in Whistler started off a family-focused community celebration featuring live performances, Olympic mascots, face painting, a community cauldron lighting of the Olympic Cauldron, and the chance to cheer on torchbearers.
The colour red flooded the streets of this popular resort and accommodations town, not only matching Canada's colour but also the official theme colour of the Canadian Olympic Committee.
Olympic celebrators had the opportunity to see Juno award winning artist Barney Bentall and the Grand Cariboo Opry for an amazing 90 minute concert.
By the time the Olympic torch has made it's 106 day trip through Canada it will have visited 1,030 communities in every province and territory, culminating in the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron before a television audience of 3 billion people worldwide to kick start the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
